To Eat or Not to Eat: Treating Clients with Eating and Body Image Issues

We all live in a society focused on food, weight and body perfection. But for many, their relationship to food and their bodies can become such an obsession that it interferes with their functioning—and even become symptomatic of a severe illness. This 3-hour presentation will introduce the complexities of disordered eating versus full-blown eating disorders in clinical practice. Presented by Cynthia Pizzulli, LCSW, PhD, a seasoned individual, couples and family psychotherapist and former Vice President of the National Eating Disorders Association Long Island Chapter.

Advances in technology along with the availability of and access to the Internet are impacting how behavioral health counseling professionals deliver treatment services and what constitutes typical standards of care. This training will review the current literature regarding new ethical dilemmas related to technology and the Internet and provide guidance and recommendations for both counselors and clinical supervisors.  Presenter: Dr. Delores Blackwell is a multijurisdictional licensed clinical social worker, a master addiction counselor, a certified trauma professional, and a certified compassion fatigue professional.

10th Anniversary Chili Smackdown

Chili lovers across Long Island can enjoy both meat-based and vegan chili selections offered at various locations while raising funds for community mental health services by participating in the “2020 Chili Smackdown,” a multi-faceted, four-day, chili-centric event. This year, we modified the format of the annual chili event to conform with social distancing and other public health guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 format is also intended to provide an economic boost to local businesses that have struggled as a result of the virus.
