Cultivating Compassion with Ourselves and Our Clients: Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) helps those who struggle with the shame and self-criticism that can result from early experiences of abuse or neglect. It teaches clients to cultivate skills in compassion and self-compassion, which can help regulate mood and lead to feelings of safety, self-acceptance, and comfort. CFT can be integrated into any integrative approach. This session will review how to use it as a primary or adjunctive framework. Presenter: Dr. Reji Mathew is an integrative, neuroscience-informed, social work psychotherapist; a narrative freelance journalist; a digital artist; and an expressive arts advocate.

Our annual Chili Cook-Off is a day where Long Islanders can enjoy the most diverse, delicious, and creative meat and vegan chili dishes from local food establishments, area businesses, and local talent. Prizes will be given in several categories including a “People’s Choice” award. And it's more than just a day to enjoy chili. It's a fun-filled afternoon with one-of-a-kind vendors, food, beverages, and children’s games. Then, at 3:30pm, we start our much-anticipated annual Halloween costume contest for kids under 10 years of age. All proceeds from this event support emotional wellness and programs for veterans.
