Part I: What it was? What it is?
Delve into the development and history of the creation of “Developmental Stages” and “milestones” and explore the use of these in the modern day within the field (pre-COVID). Through a strengths-based lens, explore how this has impacted typically developing youth and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities. Presenter: Francis Lora, MSSW, LCSW-R, SIFI, CFSW, has an innate ability to connect with middle school students (“’tweens”); adolescents; young adults; and first time parents.

12th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Fall Festival

Our annual Chili Cook-Off is a day where Long Islanders can enjoy the most diverse, delicious, and creative meat and vegan chili dishes from local food establishments, area businesses, and local talent. Prizes will be given in several categories including a “People’s Choice” award. And it's more than just a day to enjoy chili. It's a fun-filled afternoon with one-of-a-kind vendors, food, beverages, and children’s games. Then, at 3:30pm, we start our much-anticipated annual Halloween costume contest for kids under 10 years of age. All proceeds from this event support emotional wellness and programs for veterans.

Understanding Complex Trauma in Children and Its Impact on Their Caregivers

When working with youth who have been impacted by trauma, the caregiving context is a critical component of intervention. Many caregivers are parenting in a stressful context that may include past adversity as well as current ongoing stressors. This workshop focuses on the impact of stress and adversity on parent-child attachment and specific strategies for supporting caregiver regulation. Presenter: Kristine Kinniburgh, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with a specialty in the field of traumatic stress.
