Veteran Housing Manager

Salary: $42,000 plus competitive benefits package

Hours: 830am - 430pm, Monday - Friday

Location: Yaphank, NY

Availability: 1/1/2020

Position Description:

A Housing Manager for Suffolk County United Veterans (SCUV) Permanent Housing (PH) Program has a variety of duties and responsibilities.  These responsibilities rest within the framework of direct service to enrolled and potentially enrolled clients of the case management services program and operate in a manner consistent with SCUV’s overall mission “To assist homeless Veterans to regain their dignity and independence.”

Specific Direct Service Responsibilities:

  • To help ensure and/or facilitate meals; It is expected that some clients will make their own meals while others will be receiving meals from home delivery service
  • To monitor each client’s awareness, administration, and adherence to their prescribed medication regimen
  • To coordinate and ensure on a daily basis each client follows through with their scheduled appointments and secure adequate transportation; House Managers may also provide transportation with agency vehicle when needed
  • To consistently provide personal money management; assist with banking, bill paying, budget skills, etc.
  • To assist clients to with home care service coordination such as Home Health Aid & Nursing care visits for veterans receiving Aid and Attendance or other disability assistance as deemed by the Care Manager
  • To make use of and to account for the use of Petty cash funds in an effective, thorough, and timely manner
  • To understand and respect the personal privacy of agency clients and to maintain the confidentiality of their personal and clinical information

Property Management:

Oversee quality of work for cleaning and landscape companies.  Ensure the safe and dignified appearance of the property.  

Reporting Requirements:

  • Documenting daily services provided in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)

Quarterly and annual reporting responsibilities as required

  • Bachelor’s Degree and / or 2 years in a human services career field
    • Honorably Discharged Veterans are encouraged to apply
  • Previous experience as a housing manager highly desired
  • Knowledge of community services for Veterans and their families preferred
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Understanding of military culture
  • Complete a face-to-face interview and all employment application forms
  • Comply with all requested background checks
  • If a Veteran:
    • Honorably Discharged Veteran of one of the United States armed services, or currently serving National Guard or Reserve member
