Position Description:

Position Summary:

The goal of the Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) is to help disaster survivors recover from the adverse reactions to disaster and begin to rebuild their lives. The CCP focuses on helping them understand their personal reactions, helping them plan action steps and solutions to resolve losses and overcome adversities, and linking them to other community resources.

The CCP helps survivors prioritize their needs and connect with organizations or people who can assist them. Although the CCP is a temporary disaster relief program, it leaves behind a permanent legacy of more adaptive coping skills, educational and resource materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of crisis counselors in the field and may perform crisis counseling as needed.
  • May help to assess people who require traditional mental health or substance use treatment.
  • May be one of several team leads on staff with a provider, depending on the size and scope of the disaster.
  • Trains, debriefs, and provides supervision for the crisis counselors.
  • Uses data to conduct ongoing needs assessment.
  • Coordinates data collection activities and reviews data form submissions for accuracy.
  • Provide education on COVID vaccine during outreach meetings
  • If the program is using the mobile application, the team leader reviews and accepts or rejects forms submitted through the mobile application.
  • May use the mobile application to complete data forms.
  • Provides coordination and oversight of the crisis counselors’ plans of service.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent inter-personal communication including the ability to establish empathic, empowering relationships with people who have experienced psychiatric illness, substance abuse and trauma.
  • Strong clinical judgment and assessment skills preferred.    Experience in diagnostic assessment a plus.
  • Strong computer skills including use electronic record and e-health information exchange.
  • Ability to produce clear and succinct documentation which provides the relevant details needed to support medical necessity, demonstrate progress, communicate treatment issues and enhance care coordination.
  • Candidates with experience in person- centered practice including identification of the stage of change and motivational interviewing tools preferred.
  • Sound organizational skills and accountability demonstrated by consistent reliable follow up.
  • Candidates with family or personal lived precovery experience a plus.
  • Training and understanding in substance abuse and/or learning disabilities a plus.
  • Candidates should be cultural competent.  Bi-lingual, English/Spanish a plus.

Education:

A Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling and 3 years’ experience is required.   Candidates must be Licensed or License eligible with the expectation that they will obtain this credential in a reasonable timeframe.
